Painting the desk

Yay! The desk is coming along nicely. I was able to put one coat of white paint on the desk and the second coat of blue on the drawers last night. :) (even though the desk does look blue, it is indeed white)

The next 3 nights and the weekend are booked, so I probably won't be able to do any work on the desk. :(   Hopefully next week, the desk makeover will continue!  I REALLY, REALLY want to get back to crafting!!

A little side project - desk makeover

So, I started putting the room back together this morning and was looking at my oak, L-shaped desk, thinking how nice it would be if it was white. Well, a while back I pinned (yes, another Pinterest idea, hehe) a how-to on painting furniture.

After a trip to Ace Hardware, I finally had all the supplies to begin. The first step was to sand the parts of the desk I wanted to paint with 80 grit sand paper and an electric sander.  I did not sand any spots that wouldn't be seen, like the underside of the desk or the sides of the drawers.

Then I wiped everything down with a damp cloth to get all the dust off.  The next step was to primer everything that was previously sanded.  This was a LOT of work, but hopefully it will pay off in the end.

I decided to put 2 coats of primer on the tops of both desks since they are so heavily used.  After a few hours of patiently waiting (which was SUPER hard!) I very lightly sanded the surfaces of the drawers to get rid of any drips and brush marks from the primer and started with the first coat of paint.  The first drawer was painted with a crappy paint brush and I was very unhappy with the way it turned out.  Referring to the trusty Pinterest article, it said to use something called Floetrol to help with brush streaks.  So, off to Ace again to pick up a better quality brush and a bottle of Floetrol. :)

I painted the drawers the same color as the walls of my newly painted room since there was some left over paint.  I was able to get 1 coat on all the drawers and desktop organizer before it got too dark and chilly.  Tomorrow after work, I hope to put 1 coat of white paint on the desks and then 2nd coat of blue paint on the drawers.  Can't wait!!

Here is the link to the tutorial I followed from Pinterest.  Thanks Centastional Girl!!  http://www.centsationalgirl.com/2011/04/how-to-paint-furniture/

Wall painting done!

I just finished putting the 2nd coat of paint on the walls!! Yay! My hubby also removed the door to my craft room along with all the hardware. I put two coats on the front of the door, so tomorrow I will finish up the back side.

My hubby is also going to pick up some pewter spray paint tomorrow so I can try something out that I saw on Pinterest (which I am totally addicted to!) All the door knobs and hinges in our house are gold brass... Yuck! So I am going to attempt to spray paint them a pewter color. I will definitely post before and after pics!

My plan for tomorrow is to finish up the door and to do any touch up on the base boards and trim. The room is coming along very nicely!! :)

Happy Anniversary to us!

And I thought I was going to get to paint yesterday? hehe!!  My husband and I spent the evening celebrating our 2nd wedding anniversary.  It was a very nice evening at home with minimal interruptions (which is VERY rare!) and enjoying some delicious, cold beer.

Friday night we will be going out to dinner at a restaurant called The Dead Fish in Crockett.  Can't wait!!  I will be back on schedule tonight with painting... hopefully I can get the first coat on tonight :)

Craft room makeover day 6 and 7

I got sooo much painting done this weekend!  3 out of 4 walls are completely finished.  I have to go back and do some touch up on the baseboards and crown molding, but there isn't too much.  Tonight I hope to prep the final wall and get it all ready for painting on Tuesday. :)

Below are some pics of the weekend's work.

Day 5 of craftroom makeover

Well, I was able to pick up the paint yesterday (Thanks for the ride Brandi), but didn't get much painting done, so I won't bore you with the pictures. :)  As soon as I get home from work, I am going to paint, paint and paint!!

Happy Friday everyone!

Day 4

Last night I finished the ceiling! :)  It is all ready and waiting for the trim pieces and the bench.  In the meantime, I am going to paint the rest of room.  I have finally decided to use Blue Green Gem on the rest of the walls in the room.  I was hoping to start the painting tonight, but had a rough morning at work and ended up coming home sick.  Hopefully I will be feeling better later and will be able to paint!

Here are some before pics of the room.  Sorry for the mess!  Things are kind of crazy in here right now.
Haha, of course Daisy had to be in one of the pictures!  She is my "precious kitten" even though she is about 7 years old. :)

Craftroom Makeover Day 3

The painting of peaceful pond is all done!  Yay! :)

Sorry the picture is so bad... It's hard to get a picture that resembles the actual color with the florescent light.  Tonight I will paint the ceiling and and attic door and the the painting for the reading nook will be done!  My plan is to "frame out" (as my darling love calls it) the closet with pieces of trim, but that will be a little ways off.  Sooooo, my next step will probably be to paint the rest of the room.  Oh the color choices! :)

Day 2 of craftroom makeover

Here are some pics of first day of painting.  I picked Peaceful Pond from Kelly Moore. I didn't quite have enough time to finish it all after work, but I LOVE the color already!  Thanks to Brandi for all the decorating advice and thanks to my darling love (haha, he hates it when I call him that!) for helping with the texturing!

Craftroom Makeover

Thanks to my sister (Congrats Sister!!) moving into a new house and helping with the painting, I was inspired to add some color to my own home!  Where better to start then my favorite room in the house... my craft room!  In addition to adding some color, my handy husband is going to help me transform the closet into a reading nook! :)

Here is the closet, all patched and ready to texture and paint.  Unfortunately, I didn't take a before pic when it was a real closet.

Here is my husband texturing the walls.  Thanks honey!!

Here is the room after the texturing, waiting for it to dry.  Can't wait to get starting painting it with an actual color!!
